We are looking for a dynamic and talented Learning and development specialist to lead the learning and Development (L&D) Function for this rapidly growing and successful New Zealand-owned company in the education sector.
We are searching for someone to own the internal learning and development for this business that is a tertiary education provider. You will be creating and executing learning and development strategies that align with the organisation’s needs and develop the function to be the best in class for the company. This is a newly created role so there is a real chance to grow the function from ground up.
As well as the L&D responsibilities, this role is also responsible for the HR function of the business. This role will look after the entire employee life cycle of its approx. 40 employees, own the recruitment and onboarding process as well as own the performance management piece and ensure managers are equipped with the tools they need to succeed.
The role is both strategic and operational and encompasses some of the below responsibilities:
- Create and organise the delivery of company-wide learning and development programmes and team building activities
- Map out and document current training workflows to allow consistency and identify inefficiencies.
- Use data driven insights to enhance results.
- Work closely with the leadership team to support broader operational goals.
- Recruitment of new staff
- Management of onboarding and induction process for new staff
- Develop and maintain professional development plans
- Foster a positive workplace culture that aligns with the company values
It is essential that you are strong operationally and able to roll up your sleeves and be in the detail to achieve outcomes. Crucially, you will be a strong relationship builder with excellent stakeholder management skills and be able to adapt to the ever-changing education landscape.

This role reports into a fantastic Chief Operating Officer who will provide you with the tools necessary to succeed.
The company is based on the North Shore, and the role has the potential to change to reduced hours once the function of the business has been set up.
